RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech men's golf team is ready for its third-straight week of play as the Bulldogs are set to compete at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee (Par 72 – 7,436 yards) in Eatonton, Ga., from Friday to Sunday.
"The guys are ready to get going tomorrow here at the Linger Longer Invitational," head coach
Matt Terry said. "Reynolds Lake Oconee is one of my favorite places to go, and the Great Waters Course is in great shape."
The 54-hole tournament will run from Friday to Sunday with the first LA Tech golfer teeing off at 8:35 a.m. CT on Friday.
The Bulldogs will be represented by seniors
Mac Murphy (72.23 avg.) and
Sam Murphy (72.77 avg.), junior
James Swash (75.38 avg.), and sophomores
Lake Juban (74.85 avg.) and
Hunter Battles (74.88 avg.) at this weekend's tournament.
The Linger Longer Invitational will feature a field of 16 teams, including two teams ranked in the top-50 by Golfstat, in Augusta, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia State, No. 40 Georgia Tech, High Point, Kennesaw State, Memphis, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, North Alabama, Troy, Toledo and No. 45 Virginia.
Louisiana Tech enters this weekend's tournament following a 4.0-2.0 match play victory over North Texas on Thursday, March 4. North Texas had been ranked No. 18 by Golfstat heading into the match. Three Bulldogs won their matchups in M. Murphy (2&1), S. Murphy (1 up) and Swash (4&3). LA Tech and UNT each earned a half point for both junior
Blake Blaser and Juban's matches after the pair finished all-square. The Mean Green earned a point after winning its contest against Battles (4&3).
LA Tech has competed in six events this season with one tournament victory at the LaTour Intercollegiate. At the LaTour Intercollegiate, Tech won by 18 strokes with a combined -12 (288-276=564) and S. Murphy earned his first individual intercollegiate title after finishing with a combined -7 (69-68=137). So far this season, Louisiana Tech is averaging a +5 (292.77).
