LA Tech Baseball Weekly Press Conference: May 4

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech baseball head coach Lane Burroughs spoke with the media Tuesday. He recapped No. 14 LA Tech's series sweep at Middle Tennessee this past weekend and previewed this upcoming weekend's road C-USA series at FIU.

Lane Burroughs quotes

On what Taylor Young means to the team:
"You're just so glad he's a Bulldog. He's a dirtbag and a grinder and all that, but he's really smart and really studies the game. He's a coach on the field, and he runs everything. He's locked in, and he's the one hanging back after scouting report studying the pitcher on video to pick up any edge he can get. He's a really good baseball player who doesn't shy away from the moment. He is very clutch and is probably just how he's always been. It's a comforting feeling when you're filling out the lineup card and you're putting names in there like Taylor, Parker and Steele and know they're going to give everything they've got."

On what value Kyle Crigger has added out of the bullpen:
"He was so good this weekend, and his work ethic coming off this surgery has been outstanding. The breaking ball, he hasn't been able to land it a lot, but he did this weekend. I looked at it earlier and he hasn't pitched for too long but already has four saves. He has the ability to throw strikes at a very high level in high-leverage situations. He's not going to shy away from anything. We wouldn't be 32-11 if we didn't have him. To have Kyle down here, he's going to throw strikes and give you everything he has. To have two guys down there that can close out ballgames for you is a comforting feeling."

On this weekend's series at FIU:
"When you look at them, they've got great players. I say it every year, but when you play FIU, it's like playing a Double-A team. They have a lot of professional prospects and are in a hotbed. They're in Miami. You don't have to go far to find really good players. They're very talented, and any team can hit its stride over a certain weekend. It isn't who you play, it's when you play them. FIU has got tremendous players, and they're very well coached. Mervyl [Melendez] does a great job and always has. He's a really, really good coach, and you have to be ready. They're going to come at us, and it's on the road. I don't look too much into the numbers, and I think our league is so competitive and so good right now that it's week to week. You've got to bring it every week, and you have to hope you're a little better than the other team you're playing."
