RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach
Amanda Stone announced on Wednesday the 2021 fall tennis schedule which will consist of three weekend tournaments.
For a third straight year, LA Tech will open up the fall slate in Conway, Arkansas at the UCA Fall Invitational on Oct. 1-3.
The Lady Techsters will then return to the ITA Southern Regionals for the first time since 2017. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Oct. 14-19.
The fall season will close out at home by hosting the LA Tech Invitational for a second straight season. The tournament is scheduled for Nov. 5-7.
"This fall is about getting our team comfortable and confident," said Stone. "We will see a lot of the teams from the spring schedule at the tournaments. I am really happy the ITAs are back on and we can see our players compete there.
"We have a lot of potential and the focus of that fall will be getting everyone clicking and improving. We will be hosting a home event again this fall to end the season, which will be a great opportunity for the Ruston community to get a preview of our team. Overall, our players and I are really excited to be back together and on the court competing."
LA Tech returns five players off last year's roster, including
Ilana Tetruashvili,
Lara Unkovich,
Alexia Romero,
Leonie Schuknecht and
Madison Cefalu.
Tetruashvili enters her fourth season with the program, having compiled 47 dual victories in singles and doubles. Romero heads into her third season with a dual singles mark of 22-8, the fifth-best record through the first two years in program history.
Cefalu also enters her third season while Schuknecht and Unkovich return for year No. 2. Schuknecht became the first freshman to spend all spring at the top spot since 2010, totaling 17 dual victories in 2021.
