Bulldogs Finish Tied for Sixth in Final Fall Event

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Louisiana Tech Golf team closed out the fall portion of its schedule in a positive way on Tuesday, shooting their best round of the Daniel Island Intercollegiate with a 292 (+4) to help finish in a tie for sixth at the Ralston Creek Course.
 
After improving by eight strokes from round two to round one, LA Tech improved by five more strokes to end with a total team score of 894 (+30) to tie with Middle Tennessee. 
 
Hunter Battles had the low round of the day for the Bulldogs, finding the red with a 71 (-1).  It was his lowest round of the season and tied for the third lowest round on the final day of the event.
 
Thomas Henson and James Swash both registered top 20 finishes for the tournament.  Henson tied for 12th at +6 (75-73-74=222) while Swash tied for 20th at +7 (75-73-75=223). 
 
Lake Juban had the second best score in the third round, shooting an Even par 72 to finish in a tie for 22nd at +8 (77-75-72=224).  Battles rebounded from a tough opening round to finish at +16 (85-76-71=232) while Will Patrick finished at +17 (78-79-76=233). 
 
Mississippi State (+15) overtook Florida Gulf Coast (+18) on the final day to take the team title.  LA Tech ended just three strokes back of third, but did pick up top-100 victories over Mercer and UAB.

"The team played the back nine much better today, which allowed us to improve for the second straight round.  A few miscues during the day cost us a top three finish though.  If our players get some solid work in the offseason, we have a chance to really improve in the spring."

  • LA Tech picked up wins against two top-100 teams in Mercer (52) and UAB (81) while also tying Middle Tennessee (84).
  • The 292 (+4) shot by the Bulldogs tied for the fourth lowest round of the day.
  • LA Tech totaled 35 birdies during the Daniel Island Intercollegiate, the fourth most made in the event.They also ranked fourth in Par 5 average at 4.97.
  • Hunter Battles carded the best round of the tournament by a Bulldog with a 71 (-1).It was also his lowest round of the season.
  • Hunter Battles was one of only 14 golfers to shoot under par in a round during the entire tournament.His 71 tied for the third lowest score in round three.
  • Thomas Henson registered his second top-20 finish of the season.
  • Lake Juban totaled a team-high 10 birdies in the event.He has totaled at least nine birdies in three of the four events this season.

LA Tech will return to action in early February when they take part in The Hyat hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.
