Murray Shatters School Record and Placed Third on Day One of the C-USA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--- Louisiana Tech finished day one of the C-USA Indoor Championships with a new school record, a podium finish, PRs, and multiple advances to the finals. 
 
DAY ONE RECAP 
Sophomore Johannon Murray had a phenomenal performance today in the pentathlon. Murray broke her own school record by 199 points with a total score of 3549 points, which earned her a podium finish of third place. Within the pentathlon, Murray held the fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (922pts), third-place in the high jump (771pts), fourth-place in the shot put (611pts), 12th – place in the long jump (546pts), and fifth in the 800 meters (656pts).
 
Freshman Daniel San Juan also competed in the multis and currently holds the fifth-place position amongst his competitors in the heptathlon. Day one of the heptathlon consisted of the 60-meter dash, the long jump, the shot put, and the high jump. San Juan will go into day two with 2776 points on the board. The high jump was San Juan's most successful event of the day, with a second-place finish, which added 740 points to his overall score.
 
NOTABLES
  • Kayla Watson placed 7th in the 60- meter hurdles with a time of 8.73s and advanced to the finals. 
  • Urijah Williams placed 8th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.525s and advanced to the finals.
  • Seth Boullion placed 6th in the 400 meters with a time of 48.71s and advanced to the finals.
  • Raven Alexander placed 4th in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.91m.
  • Maya Perry-Grimes placed 6th in the long jump with a jump of 5.90m.
  • The DMR ran 10:37.10, which placed them in 8th-place.
 
Day two will begin with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles at 8:30 a.m. Then, the remaining field events will start with the men's shot put at 10 a.m. Finally, the finals for running events will begin with the women's mile and end with the men's 4x400-meter relay.
 
After all the events come to an end on Sunday, Conference USA will host the Awards Presentation at 3:40 p.m.
