Brooke Diaz and
Lindsay Edwards homered and
Audrey Pickett picked up another win in the circle as Louisiana Tech defeated McNeese 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.
Tech (10-6) completed its five-day road trip with a 4-2 mark and will return home to host Southeastern Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.
"We are playing pretty well," said head coach
Josh Taylor. "We are finding a way to get things done on offense. It was a well-played game. Pickett continues to deal and if we can continue to play clean, we will be okay. I am proud of them. Tanjala (Smith) got two hits for us. We are just having different players step up."
Smith gave Tech a 1-0 lead with a single down the third base line in the top of the third to break a scoreless tie.
Caroline Easom followed with a two-run single and then Diaz drove an RBI double to centerfield as Tech plated four.
Diaz launched her fourth home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning, a solo shot over the centerfield wall, to increase the Lady Techsters advantage to 5-0.
Pickett was on cruise control through five innings, getting some help from her defense which turned three double plays on the day. In the bottom of the sixth, she finally gave up a run on three hits but a line drive double play on a ball caught by Bayli Wright at first base ended the threat.
Edwards answered in the top of the seventh, lining a solo shot over the left field wall for her third dinger of the young season.
"That was big," said Taylor. "It's important for us when conference play starts to respond to the other teams. And we were able to do that today. I felt like we were in control the entire game. I am really proud and happy with the girls. They are starting to figure me out. We are seeing some growth out of them individually and collectively."
Pickett (7-2) got the win, allowing the one run on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters.
Diaz and Smith each collected two hits while Easom and Diaz drove home two runs each.
