No. 8 LA Tech Bowling Earns NCAA At-Large Bid to National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championships

The Lady Techsters will compete in the Arlington Regional with North Carolina A&T, Sam Houston, and SFA April 8 & 9

RUSTON, La. – For the second time in program history, the No. 8 Louisiana Tech Women's Bowling team will be competing in the National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championships.

The Techsters earned an at-large bid in the Arlington Regional with overall No. 4 seed Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, and North Carolina A&T.

"The team has worked really hard this year to make it back to the NCAA championship," said Head Coach Matt Mantais. "After last years championships they felt they have some thing to prove. Our regional is definitely one of the toughest to make it to the finals, but in order to win the national championship you have to beat everybody. Our goal is to go out and bowl the pins and win. Over this next week we will fine-tune some issues we've been having and show up to Dallas prepared and ready to go."

Tech was scheduled to host a selection show watch party in the Chris Richardson Suite of the press box at 3:00 p.m. but the show was postponed an hour by the NCAA selection committee.

The nerves of the unknown would have to linger a little longer, but as the time finally came, the Techsters heard their name called in a room full of numerous other athletes, coaches, support staff, and administrators there to witness the back-to-back NCAA selection.

The NCAA Championship is a Mega Match Format which will be the same as the Southland Bowling League Tournament where the Lady Techsters placed third last weekend in Harahan, La.

The tournament will be double-elimination, with each round consisting of a best-of-three match that includes the use of three-team game formats- baker total pinfall, five-person team match, and a best-of-seven baker match play.

Tech will begin its regional bid against North Carolina A&T Friday, April 8, at 9 a.m.

The 16-team NCAA Tournament field features teams from the four regions in Arlington, Texas, Lansing, Mich., Erie, Pa., and Rochester, N.Y., made of eight automatic qualifiers and eight at-large bids.

The winner of each region will advance to the NCAA Championships on Apr. 15-17 in Columbus, Ohio.
