West Point, Miss. –
Sam Murphy continued his impressive play this spring firing a four-under-par total of 212 to finish 8
th among a star-studded cast at the inaugural Mossy Oak Collegiate hosted by Mississippi State.
Murphy recorded rounds of 73, 69 and 70 to earn his fourth Top 10 finish of the 2021-22 season and pace the Bulldogs who finished tied for 10
th in the 19-team field.
Mac Murphy finished 23
rd out of a field of 100 golfers with a 54-hole total of even par 216 (69-77-70).
"We had some solid playing by Sam and Mac this week," said Tech head coach
Matt Terry. "I am disappointed with how we finished the round today. We had a chance to pick up some solid wins against some really high-quality opponents. We as a team have to stop making scores over bogey. The big numbers kill a round."
As a team, the Bulldogs opened with an eight-over-par 296 before coming back with a one-under-par 287 in the second round (a round that was started on Monday, halted due to darkness, and resumed Tuesday morning). Tech then got off to a solid start in the third round, moving up to as high as seventh place before stumbling down the stretch to fall to 10
th.
James Swash finished tied for 59
th (79-68-75=222) while
Lake Juban tied for 78
th (76-73-78=227) and
Blake Blaser tied for 95
th (77-80-76=233).
