LA Tech Travels to Charlotte for Final Conference Series

The Bulldogs and 49ers open the series Thursday at 5 p.m. CT

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Louisiana Tech hits the road for the final conference series of the season at Hayes Stadium at Charlotte.
 
After a sweep of WKU last weekend, LA Tech has made a move up in the conference standings in second place trailing Southern Miss by two games and in front of UTSA and Middle Tennessee by just one game.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (36-17, 18-9 C-USA)
LA Tech heads into the final conference series of the year having swept WKU at home on senior weekend. The Bulldogs bats came alive outscoring the Hilltoppers 34-8 in the three-game set. Six different Bulldogs hit .364 or better in the three-game span.
 
LA Tech catcher Jorge Corona hit an outstanding .700 over the weekend with a home run, two doubles, five RBI and three walks. Corona has now started in 50 of the 53 games played behind the plate.
 
Taylor Young was incredible in the leadoff spot has he was 6-for-13 with four doubles, a home run and came around to score nine times. The senior shortstop now leads the nation in runs scored with 75 and sits just eight runs shy of the program single season record he set just one year ago.
 
Sophomore center fielder Cole McConnell inches closer to the single season RBI record in program history after recording five more over the weekend. McConnell launched his second grand slam in Friday nights win and now sits second in the conference and eighth in the nation with 68 RBI.
 
Bulldog closer Kyle Crigger has now appeared in a team-leading 29 games while sporting a 1.56 ERA in 52 innings pitched out of the bullpen. The right-hander is tied for first in the conference in saves and sits just two saves behind the program record at 12 held by Caleb Dudley back in 2011.

ABOUT CHARLOTTE (34-18, 16-11 C-USA)
Charlotte rolls into play having won six out of their last seven games while taking a midweek game from South Carolina on Tuesday night 8-3 and winning two out of three on the road at FAU. The Niners are 11-1 in their last four conference series.
 
Charlotte outfielder Jake Cunningham earned C-USA Hitter of the Week honors last week hitting .533 in three games versus Florida Atlantic with eight hits and six RBI. Cunningham was just a single shy of the cycle in the 14-4 win over FAU mashing two long balls in the series finale.
 
Going into the final weekend of conference play, David McCabe leads the conference in slugging (.792), on-base percentage (.509), OPS (1.301) and is second in batting average hitting .377 on the year.

THE SERIES
The Bulldogs and 49ers will meet for the 18th time on Thursday night with Charlotte leading the all-time series 12-5. The last time these two schools met was back in 2018 in Ruston as Charlotte took two out of three with the Bulldogs. 2017 was the last time the programs faced off in Charlotte with the 49ers also taking two of three games in that series.
