CHOUDRANT – The Louisiana Tech golf team wrapped up its opening tournament of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday, finishing sixth at the 10th annual Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club.
The first unit of Bulldogs closed out their home event by shooting 291 (+3) for a 54-hole total of 855, their second lowest ever score at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. The second wave of Bulldogs shot 301 (+13) to end things with a 54-hole total of 896.
The putts were not falling as frequently for LA Tech in the third round with the first group combining for just six birdies on the front nine. Both
James Swash and
Hunter Battles ended up playing the back nine at -1 to finish at Even par, a team best for the day.
Swash ended up tying for 35th at -1 (215) while Battles shot +7 (223).
The top two scorers coming into round three,
Lake Juban and
Will Patrick, both carded their lone birdie of the day on the front nine. The duo both finished up at -4 (212), tying for 19th individually which is their career best in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
In his Bulldog debut,
Thomas Henson carded a +4 (76) on Tuesday to finish at +4 for the tournament.
In the second group,
Peyton Johnson and
Payne Johnson led the way in round three with both scoring a 73 (+1).
Peyton Johnson had the best 54-hole total of Team B, shooting +6 (222).

"I am proud of the effort from our guys this week. All ten guys had really good spots of play throughout the event. It will be good for them now that we have three rounds of tournament competition to get back to work. We have a few weeks before out next event to get better. We just have to continue to work on certain things in each person's game to play more efficiently."
