Maki-Petaja Records Top-20 Finish at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Freshman Niilo Maki-Petaja tied for 18th to record his first career top-20 finish as Louisiana Tech concluded the third and final round Tuesday at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Blackthorn Club.
Maki-Petaja tallied two birdies, 14 pars, and two double bogeys to wrap up his second collegiate event, carding 64-77-74=215 (-1). He also led the Bulldogs in the previous tournament, Argent Financial Classic, after shooting Even par at the three-day home event a month ago.
Three other Bulldogs – Will Patrick, Lake Juban, and Jake Plumb – also shot 74 (+2) to close out the tournament. Plumb had the second best overall finish for LA Tech, tying for 55th after shooting 77-70-74=221 (+5).
LA Tech finished 15th as a team, shooting 293-299-296=888 (+24).
Host East Tennessee State, ranked No. 11 in the country, ran away with the win after shooting 274 (-14) in the third round (best round of the tournament). ETSU's Mats Ege took home the individual victory.

LA Tech will return to play next week as the Bulldogs take part in the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational in Biloxi, Mississippi. The three-day event Oct. 15-17 is being co-hosted by Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss at the par-72 Fallen Oak course.
