ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (8-7)
LA Tech looks to get back into the win column after dropping all three games at No. 8 Arkansas. The starting pitching struggled for the Bulldogs, combining to throw just 11.1 innings.Â
Â
The bats struggled as well, combining for just 16 hits in the weekend series. The one big bright spot was that of freshman
Karson Evans who made his Bulldog debut. Â He started all three games while batting .364 with four hits (two home runs), six RBIs, and four runs scored.
Â
Evans became the fifth Bulldog this season to now have multiple homers.Â
Philip Matulia continues to lead in that department with six as well as having a team-high 16 RBIs.Â
Dalton Davis anchors the squad in total hits with 17.
Â
While LA Tech fell to 1-4 on the road this season, they are 7-3 at home (have won six of their last seven at the Love Shack). This two-game series with Air Force will be the last games prior to Conference USA play starting this weekend at home against Charlotte.
Â
ABOUT AIR FORCE (5-11)
Air Force looks to snap a two-game losing skid. After winning the series opener at New Mexico, the Falcons dropped games two and three by scores of 15-0 and 11-4, respectively.
Â
Air Force is wrapping up its 18-game stretch of opening the 2023 season with all road/neutral games. They will play their first home game this weekend with a Mountain West series versus San Jose State.
Â
Offensively, the Falcons are averaging 5.2 runs per game. The team is anchored by the duo of Sam Kulasingam and Trayden Tamiya who have combined for 50 hits. Kulasingam has a batting average of .455 and an OPS of 1.168.
Â
Pitching wise, Air Force has seven pitchers who have thrown at least 10 innings this season. They have a combined team ERA of 6.68.
Â
THE SERIES
LA Tech and Air Force are tied, 1-1, in the all-time series. This will be the third straight season the Bulldogs and Falcons face one another on the diamond. LA Tech won the first meeting in 2021 by a score of 18-1 in a neutral site game in Baton Rouge.
Â
The two teams then met last season in the NCAA Austin Regional where the Falcons prevailed, 9-7, and eliminated the Bulldogs from postseason.
