Heath Jr. Advances to NCAA Championships; Runs a 9.99

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Rodney Heath Jr. made more history tonight by qualifying for the men's 100m NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, with the first-ever program sub-10 100m sprint going 9.99 (9.983) to finish with the 10th overall fastest time. 
 
Heath Jr. came into the regional as the 16th-ranked runner and, after running a 10.13 in his NCAA East Regional first-round, moved up to No. 13 and automatically qualified for the Friday night final after taking second place in his heat. 
 
The NCAA Championships are scheduled for June 7-10. The field will comprise of the top 12 runners from the East and West Regions. The semifinal race will reduce the 24 runners to eight for the championship race.
 
Heath Jr. is the first LA Tech athlete to reach the NCAA Championships since Cole Courtois qualified in the pole vault in 2019.
