Five Bulldogs Earn 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholar Honors

RUSTON – Five Louisiana Tech golfers earned academic honors Wednesday as the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced their list of 2022-23 All-America Scholars.

The five Bulldogs – Hunter Battles, Thomas Henson, Lake Juban, Will Patrick, and James Swash – were among the 548 NCAA Division I student-athletes from 194 schools earning GCAA All-America Scholar honors.

This marked the third straight season Battles has received this honor, carrying a 3.60 cumulative grade point average.  Battles, who registered a stroke average of 75.07 over 27 rounds this past season, is also a four-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.

Henson registered a 3.50 cumulative GPA for 2022-23.  The Louisiana Newcomer of the Year recorded a stroke average of 74.30 over 33 rounds in his first season as a Bulldog, the second best on the team.  He too was a Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.

Juban is now a two-time All-America Scholar, having posted a 3.40 cumulative GPA at LA Tech.  He was one of two Bulldogs to participate in all 11 regular season events last season, registering a stroke average of 74.79 over 33 rounds.  He is also a four-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.

Patrick has the highest cumulative GPA on the team, carrying a 3.74.  He was also named a CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medalist and Honor Roll recipient.  On the course, he posted a stroke average of 75.78 over 18 rounds.

The fifth Bulldog, Swash, became a three-time All-America Scholar with a 3.33 cumulative GPA.  He was also named to the CUSA All-Academic Team and was the CUSA Individual Medalist this past season, becoming the third player in program history to qualify for NCAA Regionals as an individual.

To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.  In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.  A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Established in 1958, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) is the professional organization of men's collegiate golf coaches. The GCAA's mission is to support its member coaches from six divisions, including the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA, by creating educational opportunities, providing resources, and promoting its members with the purpose of enhancing their overall performance as coaches, mentors, and teachers. The GCAA also recognizes the excellence and achievements of its members and their student-athletes in academic, athletic, and civic endeavors.
