FORT WORTH, Texas – Louisiana Tech started the day with a commanding lead and cruised to victory at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectional on Sunday at Cityview Lanes.
The seventh-ranked Bulldogs, who finished 150 pins ahead of second with a 13,051, qualified for the USBC ITC, which will be held April 17-20 at Kingpin Lanes in Jeffersontown, Ky.
Tech opened the day nearly 400 pins ahead of second, and it looked like they would continue to build on that lead after a strong first set. Taking on St. Ambrose, the Bulldogs would roll 247, 178, 220, and 233 games to take the set 878-694.
Things would quickly change as Tech had sets of 688, 606, and 769 to end the morning shift.
LA Tech carried the momentum from a 206 before lunch into the final 16 games. Rolling 791, 864, 843, and 840 sets, the Bulldogs cruised to the team title.
QUOTABLES
Head Coach Matt Nantais
"I am very proud of how this team performed over the last three days. We started singles, and everybody bowled very well, which gave me a good feeling going into the team portion. We started the first 16 team games on fire; then, we ran into a little bit of transition issues at the end of the day. Today was the opposite; we came in struggling but finished the day off with three great matches to come away with a victory. Nevertheless, we led the event for all 64 games. I like how we are performing heading into the postseason.
