Diamond Dogs Streak Ends after Home Loss To Xavier

LA Tech falls to Xavier, 6-4, on Wednesday night

Box Score RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's hot start ended after falling to Xavier at home on Wednesday night by a final score of 6-4 at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. LA Tech (12-1) scored four runs on seven hits while Xavier (7-6) scored six runs on nine hits and one error.

Xavier's McCormick homered to right field and put the Musketeers up 1-0 in the top of the third. Meanwhile, Tech's bats were cold in the first four innings of the game, unable to register a hit. Senior Kasten Furr picked up the first base knock for Tech when he singled to the shortstop in the fifth.  Xavier picked up another run in the top of the sixth after a wild pitch, allowing Isaac Wachsmann to score. Xavier got a 2-RBI triple from Jared Cushing and extended their lead to 4-0.

The Musketeers got back-to-back solo home runs off of freshman Reece Tarini, cushioning the lead to 6-0 in the top of the eighth inning. Senior Dalton Davis got Tech on the scoreboard with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. A Cole McConnell RBI single cut Xavier's lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the ninth. Dalton Davis made it a two-run game after an RBI single to center field. Ethan Bates grounded out to end the game.

LA Tech pitching had ten strikeouts in the game. Sam Brodersen was the only Tech pitcher who did not give up a hit on Wednesday.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Lane Burroughs
"You know, obviously, we weren't going to go undefeated this year. I told the team after the game if anybody would say 12-1 after 13 that not one person wouldn't have taken it. I thought we battled and showed a lot of character but also toughness coming back against two good arms."

UP NEXT
LA Tech will continue its home stand with a weekend series against rival Southern Miss, starting on Friday, March 8 with first pitch set for 6 p.m. CT at the Love Shack.
