ONEONTA, Ala. – The Louisiana Tech Golf team went even lower in round two of the GMAC Invitational on Monday, shooting eight under led by Niilo Maki-Petaja's 66 at the Limestone Springs Golf Club.
 
With the season-low 280, LA Tech remained in fifth place on the team leaderboard after 36 holes, seven shots back of tournament-leader North Alabama. 
 
After shooting 69 in round one, Maki-Petaja got off to a hot start in the second round with back-to-back birdies on No. 2 and No. 3 and then an eagle on the Par 5 No. 8 to shoot 32 on the front.  Despite making three bogeys on the back, the sophomore added five more birdies to shoot six under, his second-lowest round as a Bulldog.
 
Morton Bailey did not have the same start, going two over through his first seven holes.  However, the freshman turned it on with a stretch of four straight birdies at holes 8-11.  He finished things off sandwiching a bogey on No. 17 with two more birdies to shoot a season-low 69 (-3).
 
Jake Plumb matched his round one scoreboard with another 70 (-2), thanks in large part to another hot stretch of making four birdies over the course of six holes.  The fourth scorecard used by the Bulldogs was that of Freddie Surgey who shot 75 (+3). 
 
Maki-Petaja is alone in fourth on the player leaderboard at nine under (two shots back of the leader) while Bailey and Plumb are also in the top 20, tied for 13th and 18th, respectively.
 
UP NEXT
LA Tech will wrap up the GMAC Invitational with the third and final round played on Tuesday.  The Bulldogs will be paired up with Memphis and Troy, starting on hole No. 1 with the first tee time set for 9:15 a.m. CT.
