ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (8-20, 1-13 CUSA)
LA Tech dropped both matches on the road to Sam Houston this past weekend. The Bulldogs won the opening set 25-20 in the two-game series, but the Bearkats reeled off six straight to take wins of 3-1 and 3-0 in Huntsville.
Following a strong performance against New Mexico State, Megan Cooley continued to get the starting nod at outside hitter in both matches at Sam Houston. She totaled 20.0 points versus the Bearkats, tying for the team lead with 18 kills (had a career-high 11 in match one). Over her last four matches, she has 34 kills (had a combined 36 in her previous 14 matches played in).
Right-side hitter Jailen Hurley had a strong showing at Sam Houston, amassing 18 kills with a .412 hitting percentage. She had arguably her best performance as a Bulldog in the second matchup, collecting 10 kills on just 14 attacks and zero errors to hit .714. She became the first Bulldog since 2019 to hit at least .700 with double-digit attacks since 2019. In doing so, she eclipsed 200 kills for the season, giving her back-to-back years of 200+ kills (first LA Tech player to do so since 2018-19).
Zari Gillispie has been a force at middle blocker as of late. She had a career day in the first match at Sam Houston, registering 10 kills to go along with 6.0 blocks. Over the last three matches, the freshman has 24 kills on 53 total attacks with a .396 hitting percentage as well as 11.0 blocks.
Riley Steubing has served as the starting libero/defensive specialist in 26 of the 28 matches, having seen action in a team-high 101 sets. Defensively, the junior has totaled a team-high 388 digs, which ranks fourth in CUSA and 91st in the country. She has tallied 10+ digs in 20 matches, including 10 of the last 12, and is on pace to become just the second Bulldog in the last decade to eclipse 400 digs in a single season.
ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE (13-13, 7-7 CUSA)
Jax State is tied for sixth in the CUSA standings, having splits its 14 league matches. The Gamecocks have won four of their last six, including a sweep of New Mexico State this past weekend with victories of 3-2 and 3-1.

From the outside hitter position, Kayla Williams is the top Gamecock with 234 total kills which is the most of anyone in CUSA and the 17th most in the country. One third of Jax State's total attacks come from Williams who averages 4.11 kills per set. Providing the passing is Charlee Solomon who is a two-time CUSA Freshman of the Week honoree, including this past week when she tallied 81 assists over nine sets. She ranks first in CUSA in total assists this season with 938.
THE SERIES
The Bulldogs trail in the all-time series against the Gamecocks, 2-3. The first ever between the two programs took place in 2008 at the Tulane Tournament in New Orleans with Jax State winning 3-0. Since then, the four meetings have come as CUSA opponents which they have split. LA Tech won both matchups at home via shutouts in 2023 while Jax State won both in Jacksonville last season by the score of 3-1.
