LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Louisiana Tech men's and women's track and field programs ended the opening day of the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships on a high note, as
Cobe Johnson and
DeMarko Lawler Jr. earned second and third place in the men's long jump.
The two freshmen jumpers both set personal records with their performances on Friday. Johnson's runner-up performance of 7.47 meters set a new mark from his previous best of 7.26 meters. Lawler Jr. improved his best by at least .2 meters as well, jumping to a new mark of 7.43 meters.
Kaitlyn Washington shattered her personal best in the weight throw with a performance of 18.24 meters to finish sixth in the event and gain her team three points. Washington now has the third-best all-time throw in women's indoor program history.
Tia Reder finished fifth in the women's long jump to earn the Bulldogs four points.

Mekhi Gammons,
Philip Gray Jr. and
Dillon Sanchez scored two points for the 'Dogs on the men's side in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay.
Below is a compiled list of Bulldogs that qualified in the preliminary stage of their respective event.
Day 2 opens up with field events beginning at 11 a.m. CT Saturday morning and the track events to start in the afternoon at 1 p.m. CT.
