RUSTON –
Jamara Patterson was named Conference USA Women's Track Performer of the Meet, the league announced on Friday afternoon, the first female athlete for Louisiana Tech in the Conference USA era, with the Bulldogs being named to 12 total All-CUSA teams.
Â
Patterson has been one of the best 400m runners in the country this season, plain and simple.
Â
At the Conference USA Outdoor Championships, Patterson ran a 51.43 in the 400m to take home gold, her third career medal in the event. Her time broke a 19-year-old record set by Houston's Ebonie Floyd by 0.34, setting a new Conference USA meet record. This not only broke that but also set a new Louisiana Tech outdoor program record. It is the fourth time Patterson has broken the 20-year-old record this season.
Â
The junior from Grenada owns the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth fastest times in LA Tech history.
Â
Patterson also won gold in the 4x400m relay, alongside
Tyhra Charles,
Nia Wiley, and
Jaitlyn Ware. The team ran a 3:34.62 in the event, giving Patterson her fourth medal in the event, her third gold. Patterson was a part of the team that set the CUSA Outdoor Championships record last season with a 3:33.60 mark.
Â
With the honor, Patterson becomes the first female athlete in Louisiana Tech's Conference USA era to be named Performer of the Meet. Patterson was also named First Team All-Conference USA in the 400m and 4x400m with her performances at the meet.
