ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – Louisiana Tech began the sport portion of its schedule on Monday in the Sea Best Invitational, ending the day in ninth after back-to-back rounds at the Atlantic Beach Country Club.

LA Tech shot 291 (+7) and 295 (+11) in rounds one and two, respectively, to finish at 18 over par with one round to go.

Gray Kingrea, making his first appearance since the season-opening event, went bogey free in round one as an individual shooting a season-low 69 (-2) with birdies on No. 2 and No. 6 combined with 16 pars. Â It was one of only two bogey-free rounds shot all day in the tournament.

Oskari Schuvalow had the top score through 18 holes for the team, riding three birdies through his first four holes to finish Even (71). Right behind him were
Niilo Maki-Petaja and
Freddie Surgey who each shot 72 (+1). The fourth score used for the Bulldogs was that of
Morton Bailey who shot 76 (+5).

Maki-Petaja was the lone Bulldog to shoot under par in round two. The sophomore was at one over until an eagle on the par five No. 7 propelled him to a 70 (-1), making him Even for the tournament and in a tie for 21st on the player leaderboard.

Schuvalow had success on No. 7 as well in the second round, making birdie in route to shooting 72 (+1) to put him at one over and in 36th among the 75-player field.Â

The freshman Bailey and Surgey each carded 76 (+5) to count towards the team total.Â

28th-ranked Texas A&M is in the lead after finishing the two rounds at 19 under.

Kingrea will be the first to tee off for LA Tech at 7 a.m. CT in the third and final round of the Sea Best Invitational tomorrow.Â
