CARROLLTON, Texas – Morton Bailey and Niilo Maki-Petaja led Louisiana Tech on a gusty Tuesday in the final round of the Maridoe Intercollegiate.
 
The Maridoe Golf Club showed its teeth in round three, forcing high scores throughout the field with only two teams shooting better than 10 over.  Bailey was up for the challenge though, matching his round two score with another 72 (E). 
 
The freshman was steady all day, shooting 36 on the front and the back with one birdie and one bogey apiece, climbing 22 spots to finish tied for 22nd at eight over (80-72-72=224).  It was Bailey's second-best finish of the season.
 
Maki-Petaja did not have his usual magic like he did in his round two that resulted in a 69.  The sophomore grinded out a final round with no birdies while making a handful of lengthy par puts to shoot five over (77).  Even so, the star Bulldog claimed his third top 10 finish of the season, shooting 73-69-77=219 (+2) to tie for eighth, defeating eight top 100 golfers in the process.
 
Matching Maki-Petaja on the day was Jake Plumb who also shot 77 (+5) with his lone birdie coming on the short Par 5 No. 6.  Riley Hnatyshyn had the fourth scorecard used for LA Tech, shooting 81 (+9).
 
As a team, LA Tech shot 19 over in round three to finish 11th for the tournament after shooting 313-294-307=914 (+50). 
 
Seventh-ranked Oklahoma took home the team title, winning by 16 strokes.

LA Tech will play its final tournament of the regular season on April 12-13 at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
