The Diamond 'Dogs took the first game of the season series against ULM at the Love Shack, 6-2, on March 18. All six of Tech's runs came in the first four innings, four of which were driven in by
Sebastian Mexico—two on a two-run homer and another pair on a two-run base hit.
Brody Drost capped off the scoring with a makeshift inside-the-park homer to the left field corner, which was scored as a triple and an error as the left fielder bobbled the ball attempting to get it to the infield.
The last time the Bulldogs played ULM at Lou St. Amant Field, Tech won 6-2 and outhit the Warhawks 10-4.
Connor Nation earned the win in a bullpen game, tossing two innings allowing just one run on a solo homer.
Mexico leads the team with a .321 batting average, 30 RBI, a .589 slugging percentage and is one of five players with at least 30 hits for the Bulldogs this year. The junior has five jacks on the year, four he has hit in the last seven games.
Previewing the Warhawks
ULM enters Tuesday with an 18-19 record and are currently 5-10 in Sun Belt play. The Warhawks are coming off a series win at home over UL-Lafayette, taking the final two games of the weekend after dropping the series opener.
This was their first series win in conference play and first time winning a weekend series since clinching the rubber match against UT Arlington in a 4-0 shutout on March 9.
Isaiah Walker is one of the team's top hitters, leading ULM with a .341 batting average, 47 hits, three triples, 75 total bases and 18 stolen bases on 20 attempts. The senior collected three hits including a double with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Henry Garcia Jr. leads the team with six homers and brings with him a seven-game hitting streak into Tuesday's clash.
ULM has scored six runs just once in their last six games after beating Appalachian State, 13-11, on April 5 which was just their fourth time this year scoring double-digits.
