ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH
LA Tech looks to use recent success in Texarkana in order to try and capture its first CUSA team title since 2016. The Bulldogs have advanced to match play in each of the last two seasons, including last year when they led from start to finish in stroke play.
Â
The 'Dogs did not end the regular season the way they wanted to, coming in 12th at the Aggie Invitational with only one top 50 finish by a LA Tech golfer.
Â
Anchoring the squad will be
Niilo Maki-Petaja who has been the top Bulldog in 10 of the 11 events played this season. The sophomore, who is currently ranked No. 222 in the country, owns a team-best 71.45 stroke average while registering 20 rounds at or under par. He has three top 10 finishes this season, including an 8th-place mark at the Maridoe Intercollegiate earlier this April. He is also the lone Bulldog who has played in the CUSA Championship, finishing third last season.
Â
The lone freshman in the lineup will be
Morton Bailey who has competed in 10 of the 11 events in his first season with the Bulldogs. He has a stroke average of 74.17 with 11 rounds at or under par. Two of those rounds came at the Maridoe Intercollegiate when he tied for 22nd.
Â
Newcomer
Oskari Schuvalow will also see his first action at the CUSA Championship. Along with Maki-Petaja, he has participated in every event this season while recording a stroke average of 74.76 and 12 rounds at or under par. He has one top 20 finish this season, tying for 12th at the Linger Longer Invitational.Â
Â
Jake Plumb is in the lineup for the fourth consecutive event. The sophomore has registered a stroke average of 74.52 with 10 rounds at or under par, including a team-low 64 (-7) that came in the fall.Â
Â
Rounding out the lineup will be the junior
Riley Hnatyshyn. He is the only Bulldog besides Maki-Petaja to finish as the top player on the team at an event, tying for 28th at one under at the Hal Williams Collegiate.
