TEXARKANA, Ark. – Jake Plumb shot a team-best two under (70) on Tuesday as Louisiana Tech wrapped up round two of the 2025 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship at the Texarkana Country Club.
Â
LA Tech, who came into the day in third, did not have the success it had in the first round, shooting 294 (+6) as a team to fall back into seventh place with one more round remaining. The Bulldogs will need a strong finish on Wednesday as they look to end stroke play in the top four to advance to match play.
Â
Plumb got off to a hot start, sinking back-to-back birdies on the first two holes. The sophomore would also add a birdie on the Par 4 No. 8 to shoot 33 on the front. Despite a pair of bogeys that sandwiched another birdie on the Par 3 No. 13, Plumb ended the round just as he started to shoot 70 (-2), putting him in a tie for 10th on the player leaderboard.
Â
Morton Bailey did not have as successful a front nine as Plumb as the freshman made the turn at four over. He would catch fire on the back though, draining four birdies in the span of six holes to shoot 32 and finish at Even (72).Â
Â
A day after making seven birdies in route to shooting four under,
Niilo Maki-Petaja was only able to record three birdies in round two. One of those birdies came on the final hole when his approach shot from the fairway settled around four feet from the pin to shoot 73 (+1). He is tied for sixth and just two shots back of the leader with 18 holes remaining.
Â
The final scorecard used by LA Tech came from
Riley Hnatyshyn who shot 79 (+7).
Â
Despite shooting five over, Liberty remains in first place followed by a three-way tie for second between Middle Tennessee, UTEP and Sam Houston.
