RUSTON – Left-handed hitting
Sebastian Mexico was tabbed with his first weekly honor since arriving to Louisiana Tech, being named Conference USA's Hitter of the Week after his slugging performance at the plate this week per the league office's release Monday afternoon.
This marks the second consecutive week a Bulldog has earned a weekly honor after
Luke Cooley was named CUSA's Pitcher of the Week on March 31.
A native of Baldwinville, Mass., the junior belted a home run in three-straight games; a two-run blast to open the scoring for Tech on the road at UL-Lafayette, a massive two-run walk off blast in the series opener against FIU followed with a grand slam in Game 2 of the series to put the Bulldogs' lead out of reach.
Mexico was the first Bulldog to homer in three-straight games since
Dalton Davis achieved the feat during the 2024 season (ULM – 4/30, New Mexico State – 5/3 & 5/4).
The Fordham transfer plated 11 RBI in the last three games of the week, six coming in that second game against the Panthers. He also collected a pair of three-hit games at UL-Lafayette and in the second game against FIU.
His six RBI in a game were the most by a Bulldog since
Eli Berch plated seven runs at Wichita State earlier this season on March 14.
Mexico is now tied for the second-most homers on the team and leads the Bulldogs with a .342 batting average, 1.029 OPS, .421 on-base percentage and a shining .608 slugging percentage with just 20 starts this year.
Mexico and the Bulldogs return to action when they host UL-Lafayette at the Love Shack on Wednesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. CT before traveling to Murfreesboro, Tennessee for a three-game conference series with Middle Tennessee. LA Tech currently sits at the top of the CUSA standings, boasting a 6-2 record in league play while MTSU is tied for the bottom spot with Sam Houston at a 2-7 record.
