MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the third time this season, junior
Donald Lamp broke the program record in the hammer throw to win gold on the opening day of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships at the Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of Middle Tennessee on Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Friday.
Â
Lamp qualified for the finals with a throw of 59.02m (193-7) on his second throw of the day. On his fifth attempt, he would launch the apparatus 62.02m (203-5). Originally called a foul, Lamp and Throws Coach
Joseph Blue knew instantly it was the wrong call and started a protest at the end of the event. Over five hours later, the judgment came back to overturn the foul and gave Lamp the gold medal and program record.
