JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a four-hour rain delay,
Oscar Smith advanced to the quarterfinals in the 110m hurdles at the NCAA East Regional hosted by North Florida at the Visit Jax Field at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday.
Â
With the initial start time of 5 p.m. CT, the participants of the 110m hurdles were warming up before a weather delay halted the action just 30 minutes before the running events were set to begin. The disruption didn't bother Smith in his third regional appearance.
Â
The senior got out the blocks clean and took an early lead. Smith would then cruise to the heat win with a time of 13.52. His new personal best would go down as the second-fastest time in program history and earn him the top qualifying mark of the day.
Â
Donald Lamp opened the day for the Bulldogs in the hammer. The program's record holder was only able to record one mark but cemented his season as the best by a Bulldog hammer thrower in program history. The junior finished with a mark of 60.54m (198-7) for the second longest in school history. Lamp now holds the top six marks in the record book.
Â
Zachary Drake finished off his freshman campaign with a throw of 59.76m (196-1) in the javelin.
Â
The final Bulldog to compete on the opening day was
Sabastian Bradley-Reed in the 400m. The junior ran a 46.74 in his first event of the meet.
