ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (2-2)
LA Tech is coming off a dominant 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-16) victory at Alcorn State this past Tuesday. The Bulldogs were potent offensively with a .372 hitting percentage, the best since Sept. 3, 2024.
Giulia Bonifacio led the way with 10 kills, her seventh career match with double-digit kills as a Bulldog. The junior led the team in total kills last season with 219.
Â
Four matches in, the Bulldogs have already gone five sets in two of them, defeating Jackson State 3-2 in the season opener before falling to ULM 3-2. LA Tech only went the distance once all last season.
Â
It was a block party for the Bulldogs in the season opener against the Tigers. LA Tech registered 21 blocks, the most in a single match in program history during the rally scoring era. A career-high 12 of those came courtesy of
Charlize Williams, which tied for the third most in program history (one shy of tying the record). The middle blocker, who was granted another year of eligibility after missing time due to injury earlier in her career, had back-to-back matches of 10 blocks last season.
Â
Jailen Hurley has been solid for the Bulldogs on offense, having totaled a team-high 40 kills with a .367 hitting percentage and just seven attack errors.
Â
Libero/defensive specialist
Riley Steubing has come on as of last, tallying 20+ digs in back-to-back matches. The junior registered a career-high 28 digs against ULM.
Â
THE OPPONENTS
Southern opened its 2025 season by winning two of three matches at the Betty Austin Invitational. The Jaguars were shutout by Delaware State before notching wins of 3-1 and 3-2 over South Carolina State and Morgan State, respectively.
Â
LA Tech has never lost to Southern, having won all seven meetings. The two teams have faced off in each of the last four seasons, including a 3-1 win by the Bulldogs in 2024. Â
Â
Tulane went five sets in all three of its matches at the Bearkat Invitational to open its slate. The Green Wave suffered 3-2 losses at the hands of McNeese and Southern Illinois before getting in the win column with a 3-2 victory over host Sam Houston.
Â
The 'Dogs trails in the all-time series against Tulane, 2-5. The Green Wave have won three straight, including a 3-0 victory in the last matchup that came in 2013 when the two programs were in Conference USA.
Â
Lamar comes into the weekend with a 2-2 record. The Cardinals suffered 3-0 losses to Northern Illinois and Southern Miss before prevailing 3-2 over Stetson at the Stetson Hatter Invitational. They claimed a second win at home against Prairie View A&M in a midweek clash.
Â
LA Tech also trails in the all-time series with Lamar, 9-21. However, the Bulldogs have won three of the last four meetings, including a 3-1 victory in the last meeting back in 2023. The two squads played most of their matchups in the 90s when they were foes in the Sun Belt Conference (1991-97).
