BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Tech men's and women's track and field teams concluded the one-day LSU Bayou Bengal on Friday at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse with a second-straight weekend of outstanding performances by the Bulldogs.
Kaitlyn Washington opened up in the women's weight throw for the first event of the day, finishing in second place with a toss of 17.45 meters a week after setting a new indoor program record of 18.88 meters at the Arkansas Invitational. Friday's performance marked her second-straight runner-up finish and fourth top-five finish in the event as a Bulldog.
Cobe Johnson (long jump),
Katie Langford (800-meter) and
Tia Reder (triple jump) all secured individual victories in their respective events. Johnson's leap of 7.11 meters gave him the first-place finish by .01 meters, marking his first collegiate event victory.
Langford also posted her first career event victory with a time of 2:17.69, just over two seconds shy of her personal best and marking her second-straight top-five finish to open the indoor season. Reder's leap of 12.04 meters marked a season best and her fifth-career individual victory.
Majesty Omeye ran a time of 59.76 in the 400 to give her the runner-up finish, setting a new career-high finish in the event.
A'reil Williams (High Jump – 1.74m; 3rd place),
Madonna Favour (60m – 6.75; 3rd place) also clocked top-three performances Friday afternoon. Williams saw a new season best and Favour tied his PR for his fifth-career top-three finish in the 60-meter.
Brayden Vining finished fifth in the men's mile run out of 28 runners with a time of 4:19.12, and
Delaney Lopez set a new personal best in the women's 3000-meter, finishing fourth with a time of 10:51.09.
The Bulldogs look ahead to an off week before returning to competition on Friday, February 7 at the Woo Pig Classic hosted by Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
