RUSTON –
Jaitlyn Ware was named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, the league announced Friday afternoon.
Â
Ware, a junior transfer from Mississippi State, made an immediate impact on the Bulldogs roster during her first year in Ruston.
Â
In her first outdoor meet in Baton Rouge, Ware placed at the podium in three events, finishing third in the 4x100m and the 100m, as well as finishing second in the 200m.
Â
At the Jim Mize Invitational, Ware would set a new meet record and personal best in the 200m with a 23.20 time, a top 50 mark in the country. Ware would sweep every event she participated in, winning the 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m.
Â
Ware filled the trophy room during the Conference USA Outdoor Championships, winning three medals across her three events. Ware won bronze in the 200m with a 23.52 mark, silver in the 4x100 with a 44.98 mark, and gold in the 4x400m with a 3:34.62 mark.
Â
Her time at the Jim Mize qualified her for the NCAA East Regional, where she competed in the 200m and ran a 23.79 time.
Â
Ware had nine podium finishes and three medals in her first season as a Bulldog.
