
Bulldogs Drop Opening Match Against Cajuns

LAFAYETTE, La. - Louisiana Tech fell to UL-Lafayette 3-0 in Earl K. Long in their first in-state rivalry action of the season.
Taylor Woods led in kills with 11, one of three players in the match to surpass 10. Woods did so on .526 hitting, only committing one error. UL-Lafayette led the Sun Belt in blocks with 167, but the Bulldogs out-blocked the Cajuns 6.0 to 4.0 in the match.
Both teams fought for control in the opening set with seven ties in before the media timeout. ULL took a two point advantage into the first timeout, but Louisiana Tech kept it close. LA Tech trimmed the lead to one late, 20-19, but the Cajuns closed the set on a four point run to win the point 25-20. Sydnee Carter dished 10 assists and found six digs, while Kylie Rodriguez led the team with five kills.
The second point started the same as the first with both teams looking to find an advantage. After tying the match at 10-all, the Cajuns ripped a 15-6 run to close the set, taking the point and a 2-0 advantage. Riley Steubing found four digs while four Bulldogs contributed a kill.
Louisiana Tech put forth their best effort in the third set, taking a 15-12 lead into the media timeout after finding a five point run. The Cajuns fought back, tying the match at 19 points. Two more ties would take place, but ULL scored the last two points to win 25-22, winning the match in three sets.Â
Gabrielle Hairston and Woods each added four kills in the final set. Six different Bulldogs recorded a dig in the final set, led by Carter's three.

- Woods led the team in kills for the 10th time this season with 11 in today's match.
- Woods notched double-digit kills for the seventh time this season.
- It was the first time Woods scored double-digit kills with over .500 hitting.
- Carter led the team with 27 assists, her seventh time this season with at least 20 assists.
