The duo defeated the 9th-ranked doubles team in the country on Sunday
RUSTON – Following the biggest win in program history, Louisiana Tech's Zoie Epps and Isabella Walker received the Conference USA Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week award, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
After a three-week hiatus due to postponed matches because of the weather, Epps and Walker were back out on the court this past weekend. LA Tech was in Starkville, Mississippi to take on Bellarmine in a neutral site match followed by a true road test at Mississippi State.
After an unfinished doubles match against the Knights with the Bulldogs clinching the opening point, the duo had the tall task of facing State's No. 1 tandem of Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz and Gianna Oboniye who were ranked 9th in the country as a duo.
With Epps/Walker down 2-4 in the match, they reeled off three straight games to take a 5-4 lead. Epps then served out the match, ripping a backhand down the line at 40-30 to win 6-4 and claiming the highest ranked victory in program history.
This marks the second CUSA Doubles Team of the Week honor for Epps and Walker who also took home the award in week one following their play at the Hurricane Invite.
LA Tech returns to action this weekend with a pair of road contests at North Texas and UT Arlington.
