RUSTON – After guiding Louisiana Tech to a pair of road victories this past weekend, the Bulldogs swept both Conference USA Women's Tennis weekly awards, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Â
Zoie Epps was named CUSA Athlete of the Week while
Alice Brook and
Maria Tsironi teamed up to earn CUSA Doubles Team of the Week. The trio helped LA Tech close out the regular season with a 4-1 win at Georgia State followed by a 4-2 victory at Kennesaw State.
Â
Epps went 2-0 in singles at the No. 1 position, first defeating Maria Paredes (GSU) 6-0, 7-5 followed by a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ema Baraniakova (KSU). Â The junior improved to 16-1 this spring, having won 13 matches in a row heading into the conference tournament.
Â
Brook/Tsironi went 2-0 in doubles at the No. 2 position, first putting up a bagel against GSU with a 6-0 victory followed by a decisive 6-3 win against KSU. The duo went a perfect 5-0 against CUSA competition during the regular season, improving to 11-6.Â
Â
This marks the fifth time Epps has been honored with a CUSA weekly award this season (three Doubles Team of the Week and two Athlete of the Week). For Brook and Tsironi, this is their second Doubles Team of the Week honor (first this season).
Â
LA Tech has its sights set on the CUSA Women's Tennis Championship. The Bulldogs, who earned the No. 1 seed, will face off against the winner of No. 8 WKU and No. 9 Sam Houston on Thursday, April 16 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
