Series History: LA Tech leads 11-7
LA Tech is coming off a crucial road series win after taking the first two games over Liberty in a weekend series in Lynchburg. The 'Dogs never trailed for 19 innings until the second frame of the Sunday series finale. Tech was a perfect 6-0 when playing the Flames on their home field entering Sunday, and still dominate the all-time series, 10-3, despite falling in the final test of the weekend.
Colton Coates has 43 walks drawn this season, currently tied for the seventh-most in a single season in program history with Tom Krupa (1982) and Taylor Young (2018). He is three walks away from tying for the sixth-most in a single season with Jim Case (1982).
His 86 career walks as a Bulldog are eight shy of tying for the 10th-most all-time with Steele Netterville (2018-22) and Johnny Walker (1975-78).
Trey Hawsey's 13 homers this season are six shy of tying for the ninth-most in a single season, and the 21 in his LA Tech career are 15 shy of tying for the 10th-most all-time by a Bulldog.
The 'Dogs saw a second consecutive series win over Sam Houston in Huntsville during the 2025 season, but their loss in Game 2 of the weekend snapped an eight-game winning streak over the Bearkats. Tech suffered season series losses to Sam Houston during the 2005 and 2007 seasons before taking midweek contests in 2019 and 2020.
Tech swept Sam Houston in 2024 in their first meeting as CUSA opponents before the Bearkats earned their first win over Tech as a CUSA member and first since 2007 to even the weekend series last year. The 'Dogs prevailed, and won the rubber match with a 9-7 victory to close out the weekend.
Since head coach
Lane Burroughs' arrival to Ruston prior to the 2017 season, the 'Dogs have dropped just two of their final regular season homer series.
With postseason tournament implications on the line, both Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston have clinched a spot in the CUSA Baseball Championship. The Bulldogs mathematically cannot be higher than the No. 2 seed or lower than the No. 5 seed. As for the Bearkats, they could finish as high as the No. 6 seed and as low as the No. 9 seed.
Sam Houston picked up a series sweep at home over Delaware before dropping a tightly contested midweek test to Houston Christian, 4-3, on Tuesday before traveling to Ruston. Thus far, the Bearkats are 10-15 on the road and 5-7 when facing CUSA opponents away from home.
