MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Bulldogs made the podium in 10 events on the final day of the CUSA Outdoor Championships, highlighted by
Jamara Patterson breaking the meet and Louisiana Tech records in the 400m for gold.
Patterson ran a blazing 51.43, the 23
rd fastest time in the country. It set a new personal best and broke the LA Tech and meet records. Patterson now owns the fastest, second fastest, third fastest, and fourth fastest times in Louisiana Tech program history. She did all four this season.
Both 4x100m relay teams placed on the podium Saturday afternoon.
Carl Murray IV, Abdulraof Rashid,
Lukundo Kapambalala, and
Karo Oghomi won gold with a 39.26 time, a season best for the squad. It ranks as the 27
th fastest time in DI.
Praise Ofoku,
Tyrica Sterrett,
Jaitlyn Ware, and
Shayann Demeritte placed second with a 44.98 mark. It set a season best for the four and is the 86
th fastest time in DI.
Oscar Smith secured silver in the 110m hurdles with a 13.60 time. It is his fifth top three finish this outdoor season.
In the 100m dash, Kapambalala placed third with a 10.21, a new personal best for the junior. Kapambalala broke his previous personal best he set in the prelim round on Thursday.
Cullen Hronek won bronze in the 400m hurdles with a personal best 52.82, besting his personal best he set in the preliminary round on Friday.
Kaitlyn Washington threw the discus 54.33m for silver, a new personal best. It is the 47
th longest toss in DI this outdoor season and the fourth longest throw in LA Tech history.
In the 200m sprint,
Jaitlyn Ware ran a bronze medal finising 23.52, her third top three finish this outdoor season.
The men's and women's relay teams rounded out the event with two top two finishes.
The women's team of
Tyhra Charles, Patterson,
Nia Wiley, and Ware cruised to a first place finish. The squad ran a 3:34.62, winning the event by almost three full seconds.
Rickey Williams III,
Sabastian Bradley-Reed, Hronek, and
John Brown placed second with a 3:06.71, a season best for the squad.
In the CUSA Championships, the Bulldogs won four events, placed second in four, and won bronze in four. Both the men's and women's teams finished in sixth place.
