Louisiana Tech defeated Grambling 3-1 in the Thomas Assembly Center to open the Bulldog Bash.
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech defeated Grambling 3-1 in the Thomas Assembly Center to open the Bulldog Bash.
The Bulldogs (5-3) found themselves in an early hole after dropping the opening set, but responded by taking a tightly contested second set before dominating the third and fourth frames to secure the four-set victory.
Taylor Woods led the squad in kills for the sixth time this season, notching a career high 14 in the match. Tyra McKinnie followed closely with a career high 13 on an efficient .333 hitting. Riley Steubing added 22 digs, her fourth match this season with at least 20.
The first set was a tightly contested matchup with six ties and four lead changes. Grambling took the set after scoring the last three points at 25-21. Six of Taylor's 14 kills came in set 1, hitting only one error.
The Bulldogs answered in the second set with one of their strongest offensive performances of the night. Louisiana Tech recorded 10 kills in the frame and used a late surge to pull away from a 24-24 tie, taking the set, 26-24, to even the match. The game was even closer than the first, having nine ties.
Louisiana Tech dominated the third set, leading 15-3 at the media and scoring eight points in a row. Grambling sparked a run, but it wasn't enough to surmount the Bulldog lead, winning 25-12.
The fourth set had the most ties in the match with 10 with Louisiana Tech taking a narrow 15-14 lead at the tie. The Bulldogs closed the game on a 10-3 run to win the match, winning five of those points in a row. Steubing added two aces and six digs, giving her 22 total scoops.
Sydnee Carter totaled 20 assists, her fourth game this season with at least 20 dishes. Emerson Traylor assisted 17 times, adding a kill. McKinnie and Violet Morandez both assisted on four blocks to lead the team.

We went out a little lax today and Grambling took advantage of that. They played with great energy and played well. The five minute break between sets two and three really allowed us to hit the reset button and flip the lineup to get Abbi Sells in the game. Her energy was phenomenal and helped us change the match. I think it was her best match as a Bulldog. We learned and we grew as a team and it's always great to do that when you win.
