Steubing Hits Career Milestone in Bulldog Victory over Delta Devils

Riley Steubing registered her 1,000th career dig on the final point of a 3-0 victory over the Delta Devils in the Thomas Assembly Center Friday night.
RUSTON – Riley Steubing registered her 1,000th career dig on the final point of a 3-0 victory over the Delta Devils in the Thomas Assembly Center Friday night.
The senior libero is only the third Bulldog in the last 20 years to hit the milestone, joining former teammate McKenzie Johnson and all-time program leader Alejandra Aviles. Steubing needed 18, and she got 18, on the very last play of the match.
Gabrielle Hairston led the Bulldogs offensively with 10 kills while hitting an impressive .421. Kylie Rodriguez added seven kills, while Tyra McKinnie and Violet Morrandez each finished with six kills.
The first set stayed close until the Bulldogs ripped seven straight to take a 15-8 lead at the media, scoring the sets final nine points in a row to take the point, 25-10. Louisiana Tech held Mississippi Valley State to just two kills on -.241 hitting in the frame. G. Hairston recorded five kills in the opening set while hitting .571.
Louisiana Tech dominated the second set, leading as much as 19-3 and scoring 11 points in a row. The Delta Devils found momentum late, but the Bulldog lead was never in danger with Jenna Hehman winning the set 25-12. Four Bulldogs registered multiple kills, while both Steubing and Hehman notched six digs apiece.
Mississippi Valley State put forth their best fight in the final set, tying the game six times and forcing six lead changes. The Delta Devils led 17-12 late into the set, but the Bulldogs closed the game on a 12-5 run to sweep the match, 25-22. Morrandez registered five kills and assisted Hehman in a block. On the match winning point, Steubing registered her 1,000th career dig.
Steubing finished the match with 18 digs and five service aces.

Credit to Mississippi Valley State, they played well and did some things that threw us off. There was too much lack of attention to detail and we did not play aggressively at all.
