ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (6-4, SBC)
The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-1 week, defeating Alcorn State, Grambling and Mississippi Valley State before falling to McNeese on Saturday. The latter three matches came in the Bulldog Bash, a 2-1 weekend for the Bulldogs.
Riley Steubing remains one of the premier liberos in the country, ranking eighth in the NCAA with 5.21 digs/set. The senior from Richmond, Texas put up dig lines of 13/22/18/11 for the week, notching her 1,000th career dig on the final point against Mississippi Valley State on Friday. Steubing is one of three Bulldogs in the last 20 years to reach the milestone.
Gabrielle Hairston, Tyra McKinnie and Taylor Woods led the Bulldogs in kills for the week, each notching at least 30 kills.
G. Hairston led the trio with 36 kills, hitting .301 for the week. The lone junior for the Bulldogs led the team in kills against Mississippi Valley State with 10 and against McNeese with 10. Hairston is currently second on the team with 77 kills and is first among outside hitters with a .278 hitting percentage.
McKinnie has been incredibly efficient as an attacker for the Bulldogs, leading the team with a .323 hitting percentage on 164 attempts. McKinnie led the team in kills against Alcorn State, posting a 9-0-12 stat line, the most efficient effort by a Bulldog this season.
Woods posted 14 kills against Grambling on Thursday, the most by a Bulldog this season. The freshman leads the team in kills with 84 and in kills/set at 2.55.
Sydnee Carter and Emerson Traylor continue to be a dynamic setting duo. Carter leads the team with 182 assists on 5.35 assists/set while Traylor follows closely with 149 assists at 4.38 assists/set. Both have 11 kills each, mixing in dumps at an effective rate.
ABOUT NORTHWESTERN STATE (5-6, SLC)
The Demons are currently riding a four-match win streak, defeating Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State, ULM and Grambling last week.
Northwestern State have two hitters with over 3.00 kills/set in Elsie Sanchez and Olivia Nzioki. Both have notched over 100 kills with Nzioki doing so on .286 hitting. Sanchez ranks second in the league with 3.35 and Nzioki ranks ninth at 3.06.
Setter Jade Longlad paces the squad with 9.44 assists/set, setting over 300 assists on the season. Longlad ranks first in the Southland Conference in assists/set, being the only player above a 9.00 average.
Emmarie McFarland bolsters the defense with 4.92 digs/set, a mark that sits second in the league.
