ABILENE, Texas - Louisiana Tech falls to Abilene Christian 3-0 to open the Wildcat Classic Thursday night.
Tyra McKinnie led the team with nine kills, hitting an incredibly efficient .667 percent. Megan Cooley and Taylor Woods both added six kills for second on the team.Â
The Wildcats took a commanding 9-4 lead before the Bulldogs trimmed it to 10-8. Abilene Christian took a four point lead at the media timeout and never let up, winning the set 25-13. Riley Steubing found six digs in the set while McKinnie notched two kills on three attempts.
The Bulldogs put forth their best fight in the second set, winning the race to 15 points with the Wildcats close behind at 14. The Wildcats fought back, retaking the lead and never giving it back, winning the set 25-21 to take a 2-0 set lead. Cooley connected for four kills while Morrandez assisted with two blocks. Louisiana Tech hit .321 percent in the frame, the best effort of the match.
Set three started close with both teams at 9 points apiece, but the Wildcats took over, scoring seven points in a row to take a 22-10 lead late. ACU closed the set 25-15 to take the match 3-0 to open the Wildcat Classic. McKinnie added another four kills on five attempts.
Riley Steubing notched 10 digs while Morrandez assisted on three blocks, finding a solo as well.
