
Carter Sets Career High in Loss to Ladyjacks

Sydnee Carter assisted 44 times as Louisiana Tech volleyball dropped a four-set battle to Stephen F. Austin Friday night at Moody Coliseum in the Wildcat Classic.
ABILENE, Texas – Louisiana Tech volleyball dropped a four-set battle to Stephen F. Austin Friday night at Moody Coliseum in the Wildcat Classic.
Taylor Woods set a new career high with 17 kills, the most by a Bulldog this season. It marks the fifth time this season that Woods has led the team in kills. Sydnee Carter led the way with 44 assists, a new career high and the most by a Bulldog in four years.
The Bulldogs (6-7) and Lumberjacks (6-6) traded points throughout the opening set, with neither team able to pull away. Louisiana Tech held a 24-22 advantage late in the frame before SFA rallied to force extra points. The Lumberjacks eventually took the first set, 28-26. Tyra McKinnie found six kills on 10 attempts, while Megan Cooley and Woods both added three apiece.
Louisiana Tech responded in the second set, jumping out to an early advantage before SFA battled back to make it a one-point contest late. The Bulldogs maintained their composure down the stretch, closing out the set with a Gabrielle Hairston kill, 25-23, to even the match at 1-1. McKinnie, G. Hairston, and Woods each added four kills.
The third set opened as a tight contest with both teams staying within two points of each other. SFA found momentum, scoring nine straight points to take a 19-9 advantage.The Bulldogs fought back, pulling within five late, but the Ladyjacks closed the set 25-20 to take the point.
The Ladyjacks carried that momentum into the fourth set, using a late run to pull away and secure the 25-18 victory and the 3-1 match win. Woods notched seven kills in the final set, giving her 17 total.
Riley Steubing finished the match with 18 digs. Violet Morrandez assisted with five blocks while G. Hairston followed close with four. The Bulldogs hit .277 in the match, the best of the tournament for the team.
