Louisiana Tech volleyball fell to Omaha, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) in a close contest Friday night at Baxter Arena.
OMAHA, Neb. – Louisiana Tech volleyball fell to Omaha, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) in a close contest Friday night at Baxter Arena.
The Bulldogs opened the match with an early 4-0 advantage in the first set, using a trio of blocks from Tyra McKinnie to take control early. Omaha responded with a 7-2 run to take a 7-6 lead before Louisiana Tech battled back within one at 14-13. The Mavericks pulled away late, taking the opening set 25-18. Kylie Rodriguez and Taylor Woods led
Louisiana Tech in kills with three apiece, while Gabrielle Hairston added two on an efficient three hits. McKinnie enforced the net, taking part in four blocks, including one solo.
Louisiana Tech delivered its strongest offensive performance of the night in the second set, sparking a 6-1 run into the media timeout. The Bulldogs built a 15-12 advantage before Omaha rallied to even the set at 22-22. The Mavericks would close out the set on a 3-0 run to take a 2-0 advantage in the match. G. Hairston continued to be efficient, adding three kills on four attempts with one error. Megan Cooley added five digs and two kills.
The Bulldogs again jumped out in front to begin the third set, taking an early 5-1 lead. Omaha gradually erased the deficit and used a 7-0 run to build an 18-12 advantage. Louisiana Tech rallied late to cut the margin to 20-18, but the Mavericks scored five of the final six points to secure the 25-19 victory and take the match.
G. Hairston led Louisiana Tech offensively with seven kills while hitting .462. McKinnie added six kills and four blocks, while Taylor Woods recorded six kills. Sydnee Carter and Emerson Traylor combined for 26 assists, with Carter finishing with 14 and Traylor adding 12. Riley Steubing returned to double-digit digs, adding a team high 13 for the Bulldogs.
