LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Western Kentucky eliminated Louisiana Tech from the 2001 Sun Belt Conference Softball Tournament by defeating the Lady Techsters 8-1 late Friday night in second round action of the double-elimination event.

Tech, which lost its first round game to Florida International, finished the season 20-31 in its last year as a member of the Sun Belt.

Western Kentucky, which lost to Tech in four straight games during the regular season, struck for two runs in the third and three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to down the Lady Techsters.

Tech scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth when Miranda Knight knocked in Missy Ladd. Sophomore pitcher Marla Pinkston (5-11) picked up the loss, allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits and one walk.
