FT. WORTH, Texas - Sophomore Cody Santone continued his impressive start to the 2009 fall golf season by shooting a two-round total of one-under-par to lead Louisiana Tech in the first day of the Waterchase Invitational hosted by Texas-Arlington.
Santone, who placed in the top 10 last week in the opening tournament of the fall, shot 71 and 72 and currently sits in a tie for fifth place, five shots of the lead of Wichita State's Dustin Garza and Rice's Michael Buttacavoli.
As a team, Tech sits in 10th place out of 19 schools heading into Tuesday's final round. Rice leads the team standings with a two-round team total of four-under-par (572) followed by UTA (575), Wichita State (578), North Texas (582), Texas State (582), UC Irvine (583), Sam Houston State (588), Oklahoma Christian (589), New Orleans (589) and Tech (591).
Central Arkansas (592) and UC Riverside (592) are tied for 11th followed by UTA (598), Stephen F. Austin (602), Western Kentucky (606), UTSA (607), Houston Baptist (607), McNeese State (613) and Nicholls State (630).
In addition to Santone's impressive day, teammate Matthew Harvey shot a three-over-par (147) and is tied for 27th place followed by Hayden Stephens (150, T54th), Sam Forgan (155, T77th), and Jonathan Bale (156, T80th).
