OXFORD - Louisiana Tech broke into the Top 100 last week and this week the Bulldogs showed they belonged.
In its final tuneup before the Western Athletic Conference championships, the Bulldogs recorded arguably its most impressive showing of the year finishing fifth at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate at the Reunion Golf and Country Club.
Tech defeated six Top 100 teams, including four ranked in the Top 60 in the country, as the Bulldogs tied for fifth in the 15-team field that head coach Jeff Parks called "the toughest we've played in this year."
The Bulldogs shot a three-round team total of 874 to tie 97th ranked Southern Miss for fifth place, trailing only 22nd ranked North Florida (846), 18th ranked Florida (847), 43rd ranked Ole Miss (861) and Memphis (872).
Tech defeated 52nd ranked UCF (876), 82nd ranked South Alabama (876), 59th ranked Vanderbilt (878), 57th ranked Rice (879), 99th ranked Santa Clara (883), 39th ranked Southeastern Louisiana (886), UAB (891), Mississippi State (906) and Jackson State (939).
For the second straight tournament, Parks and Co. were led by Jonathan Bale, who finished tied for 17th with a three-round total of one-over-par 217. Cody Santone (T28th, 220), Matthew Harvey (T32nd, 221), Clinton Shepard (T32nd, 221) and Hayden Stephens (T40th, 222) all posted strong showings throughout the three rounds of golf.
Florida's Tyson Alexander won the individual competition with a three-round total of 11-under-par 205.
