2011 Quick Facts
RUSTON - Senior Clint Ewing and junior Mark Threlkeld were named preseason all-Conference and Louisiana Tech was tabbed to finish fifth in the WAC according to Baseball America in their annual West Region Preview that was released Friday morning.
Fresno State was named the league favorite while Hawai'i was picked to finish second. Nevada and San Jose State were slotted to finish third and fourth in front of Louisiana Tech while New Mexico State and Sacramento State were picked to finish sixth and seventh in the conference.
The two all-Conference selections for Louisiana Tech marked the third most in the league with only Fresno State and Hawai'i garnering more preseason honorees.
Threlkeld, a junior 3B from Monroe, is a returning first team all-WAC selection after hitting .335 with 14 home runs and 62 RBI last season. Following his breakout sophomore campaign and after leading the Northwoods League with 10 homers this past summer, Threlkeld was named the 16th-best prospect in the 2010 Northwoods League. Adding to that list, the publication named the junior slugger the third-best WAC prospect for the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Ewing, a 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, established career-highs with 62 hits, 49 RBI, 11 home runs and a .350 batting average last season as he was named second team all-WAC. As one of five seniors on the Bulldogs' roster this season, the Shreveport native will look to build upon last season's success as he tallied 20 multiple hit games including 13 multiple RBI performances while directing the Tech pitching staff.
Tech opens the 2011 season on Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. as the Bulldogs host Southern Illinois as part of the Louisiana Tech Baseball Classic. For information on season tickets, visit www.LATechSports.com
