NATCHITOCHES, La. - Louisiana Tech right-hander Jeb Stefan was named this week's Louisiana Sports Writers Association Baseball Pitcher of the Week as announced Monday afternoon.
Just a year removed from Tommy John surgery, the native of Lafayette, La., allowed just two hits and fanned four batters as he held New Mexico State, the nations' top-ranked offensive club, in check as he tossed the first complete game shutout of his career.
The two hits allowed by Stefan marked the fewest that he has given up in a 5.0-plus inning start since he allowed just one hit in 5.0 innings of work against Grambling State in his collegiate debut. Additionally, Stefan picked up his second complete game of his career and had his longest outing since tossing 7.2 innings at Hawai'i on April 30, 2009.
Louisiana Tech (17-15, 2-2 WAC) will embark on an eight-game roadtrip that begins Friday evening at 11:30 CT as the Bulldogs square off against Hawai'i in Honolulu to open up a four-game set.
