Box Score

HONOLULU, HI - Trevor Petersen tallied his fourth quality start of the season but Hawai'i squeaked across a run in the bottom of the third inning and Tech stranded 10 runners on base as the Rainbows knocked off the Bulldogs, 1-0, in the series opener Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

With one out in the third, Pi`ikea Kitamura doubled to right center before Michael Blake singled up the middle off of Petersen to score Kitamura from second. However, the right-handed sophomore would strand two runners on base as he forced the `Bows to ground out to short to end the inning.

Hawai'i (19-14, 5-0 WAC) would scatter a total of eight hits on the evening but Petersen was able to work out of several jams as he stranded the bases loaded in the fifth and capitalized on a double play ball in the seventh inning to limit any further damage.

Despite a solid outing, Petersen (3-2) was charged with the loss after allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out five batters and walking four in 7.0 innings of work. The five strikeouts marked the just the third time in his career that Petersen has fanned five-plus batters.

Matt Sisto (3-4) was able to keep the Bulldogs off-balanced all evening as he allowed six hits and two walks but left eight base runners stranded on base in 6.0 innings of work. Sisto added five strikeouts and Tech was only able to muster two more hits over the final three innings of the game before Lenny Linsky closed out the ninth to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Louisiana Tech (17-16, 2-3 WAC) will look to even the series tomorrow evening at 11:30 CT as Jeb Stefan will get the nod on the mound for the Bulldogs.
