DENVER, Colo. - Louisiana Tech closer Caleb Dudley has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. The award is the second such citation for Dudley this season. New Mexico State outfielder Bryan Karraker claimed hitter of the week honors.
Dudley, a sophomore from Texarkana, Texas (Texas HS), held his opponents to a .158 batting average while picking up two saves and a win in relief to clinch Louisiana Tech's first series win against Nevada since 2006. In 5.0 innings of work, Dudley gave up only three hits and didn't allow a single run.
With his eighth save of the season, Dudley moved into a three-way tie for second place on the single-season saves list at Tech. Dudley's eight saves are the most since Matt Buckle recorded nine saves for Tech and established the school record during the 2000 season. Dudley has a WAC-best 23 appearances this season.
Dudley is the fourth Bulldog pitcher to claim a player of the week honor this season, joining teammates Mike Jefferson and Ben Carlisle who were named WAC pitchers of the week and Jeb Stefan who claimed LSWA honors last month.
Louisiana Tech (24-22, 7-9 WAC) returns to action Tuesday night at 6 p.m. with a home game against UT Arlington before playing host to 19th-ranked Fresno State in a four-game set beginning Friday night at J.C. Love Field.
