TUCSON, Ariz. - Louisiana Tech shortstop Ryan Gebhardt was honored by Louisville Slugger and Collegiate Baseball Wednesday as he was named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team.
The Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team is selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper every year.
Gebhardt, a native of Monroe, was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team after ending his freshman campaign with a 17-game hitting streak. He hit .343 in 49 games played with 23 RBI and 24 runs scored.
The product of Ouachita Parish High School was named second team all-WAC during the regular season as he played his way into the starting shortstop role. He is one of only four Louisiana players and one of only two (along with Fresno State outfielder Aaron Judge to be named to the Freshman All-America Team.
Gebhardt returns to Louisiana Tech next season after helping lead the Bulldogs to a third place finish in WAC play and a third place finish in the WAC Tournament, recording the program's best-ever run in the tournament.
